Dedicated to St Bonaventura (Giovanni die Fidanza 1221-1274, Fransiscan Church Teacher) this Church was the first Catholic church build in Woerden after the 'liberation' of the Catholics/ Catholic faith in The Netherlands. The church is a big three-aisled cruciform basilica in neo-Gothic style. The church is a dominent feature of Woerden's skyline.
Walking through the town I noticed that no door is the same. Especially in the old part of town since most of these doors were handmade. I will add some pictures of the doors of Woerden to the blog.
This door is of the house oposite the music centre at the Wilhelminastreet.
The watertower on Eastern City Moat is for sale. The muncipality is looking for a suitable function for this distinct monument. The tower is part of the silouet of Woerden. It is build in 1906, by desing of engineer of J. Schotel.

In the weekend there is an 'area' marktet in the centre where farmers sell their products, at this particular stand I buy ecological fruits and vegetables.
Every year in september the Open Monument day is organized in Europe (European Heiritage Days). The aim is to open up monuments for the public, the average amount of visitors is 1 miljon and one of the biggest cultural events in the Netherlands. Woerden opened several of it's monuments (which are open anyway usually). An exeption is the possibility to climb the church tower of the St. Peter in the centre of town.
I have joined City Daily Photo which is a site where members publish blogs with daily pictures of their town or city. I saw that Woerden was not presented yet. Before I came to live here I always thought that Woerden was a boring stuffy city and never took the time to see more than the train station. Since I live here I have come to know that it is a lively interesting town with a lot of history and social activity. Besides that I like the idea to have a look in the lives of others around the world by camera. So I hope this will be a interesting insight about living in a town in The Netherlands.
City in the west of the Dutch province Utrecht, founded by the Romans in 40 AD as a castellum at the Northern Fronteer of the Roman Empire. Received city rights in 1372, forensic city for North and South Holland's bigger cities, 33.650 inhabitants.
