Dutch Reformed church interior, I happened to be arround and took a quick peek after the evening service was over.

The garden

A shot of a garden of one of the houses at the Singel. All though I have been whining about the rainy weather, the good thing is that it is very green and lush when the sun shines. Because there is plenty of water the trees and bushes can take the luxury of having soft green leaves.. 

Old Rhine

Aah summer has arrived, it has become lovely sunny weather.. I can stop complaining. This is a shot of the 'Old Rhine' a small branch of the Rhine, which flows from Utrecht to Woerden, Alphen, Leiden and into the North Sea at Katwijk. 

Flea market

Last weekend there was a flea market. I encountered a clock which I might have bought. 

The one on the left (plain looking). However a goal for the rest of my life is not to react on impulse anymore. 

So I didn't bought it, but went to marktplaats.nl and bought the same but for one fourth of the prize :)  

Fish shop

Recently Woerden has gotten a fish shop in the center. Fish used to be the dish for poor people but now fish is a costly delicacy. I see 6 people working in this shop, which means they must make a good profit.

Arie Blok

This weekend I did a small research. This building is part of the skyline of Woerden. It's a factory, I never looked up what they actually do. It's a factory for animal food based on grains. Different types of animals, cows, sheep, cats and dogs..

The quadrangle logo contains an A from Arie and B from Blok. Blok is in English a block/ quadrangle .

I like this building, Arie Blok could have chosen to build an ugly factory tower instead he added some design to it.. : )

Suicide attack

In a shop in Woerden I spotted a painting of crying woman. Taking a closer look, she is not just crying, she has just committed ‘hara-kiri’ or ‘seppuku’? She is crying because of the reason she committed suicide and that she is about to die I guess. Quite a fascinating picture. 

Jewish cemetery

During jogging I peeped over the fence of the Jewish cemetery. Before the war there was a small Jewish community in Woerden, really small, but big enough to have a butcher. I live in the area of Woerden where most Jews lived. Some of the houses are known to have been Jewish property. The cemetery is proof there was a community in Woerden. It's funny, this cemetery is in the center of town, but for some reason we are hardly aware that it's there.

Rain

I can't help that I am slowly moving to a depressed and gloomy state of being....

It is summer but it feels we are in autumn. You can't really see it on the picture but it's taken from my office window and it is raining very hard. The word goes that next week we will get some sun. I hope to place sunnier pictures and messages by then!

Summer rainbow

When I looked outside this morning to complain about another summer day with rain, clouds and darkness. I spotted the rainbow!

Weddings

It's summer so it is the time for weddings. Unfortunately the summer seems to be a rainy one this year.

Lucky birds

Introducing to you: my desktop friends at work! They are called orange lucky birds…

Made for the E.K. but since we lost nobody is interested in having them anymore. That was my chance! 

The big one is holding my rings which I take off during the day. 

Private balcony

I noticed a balcony I have hardly seen before, though I pass it by every day. It is on the first floor but hidden by a tree. This is somebody's public private space. 

Rhodondendron

The Rhodondendron at my mothers garden has been there as long as I can remember and is this year again looking very good. (my mother has so called 'green hands').

White factory

This is a shot of old factories in Woerden. The white building is one of the tallest buildings and visible all around. I like this building, it looks a bit art deco to me.

Rock

Faun in stone

At Castle Haarzuilens I found a Faun of stone, patiently watching the crowds passing by..... looking who he will pick this evening when he comes a live....

Apple pie

This weekend I ate an apple pie which was so good! The smell of the pie was so pure and natural that I waited a while just to smell the fine odor of fresh apples and crust.
The taste was awesome, together with real whipped cream it was a perfect combination. I cannot remember that I enjoyed an apple pie that much.

I ate it very slow to enjoy each bit...

It appeared that the apple pie come from the Dudok Grand Café in Rotterdam, delivered every morning fresh... The Grand Cafés of Dudok have a good reputation in The Netherlands.  


One of the wisdoms of life is to always enjoy your cup of coffee, no matter what your situation is. I feel they can add apply pie to it. :)

Pancake Restaurant

In Bussum is a pancake restaurant which is really a great place to hang out with the family or friends to enjoy the country side and a good quality pancake. With bacon, cheese, apple, ginger, what ever is to your liking.

The chefs were extremly busy making the pancakes, we had to wait one hour for our pancakes. Nevertheless they were very splendid!
