Entry Gate of Former Army Barracks

The National Symbol of Holland, a lion. It is placed above the entry gates of the former army barracks. It is build in the time The Netherlands was a republic. The Netherlands was a European republic between 1581 and 1795. We funny enough prevered a to be a Kingdom.

Interesting post. I wondered to myself how Holland ever chose a Lion as a national symbol since the country is without lions. It might be, and I am guessing, that of all the animals known to exist, the lion is one of the most aggressive, stronger but not strongest and beautiful.
