The Sun!

I have to do it, this picture is nothing particular, but one thing, the sun is back!
Hurray, it is as if spring is starting, it has been dark and grey for so long that the coming of the sun is reason for wistheling :)

Ice cold

This morning it was ice cold, -14 degrees when I got into the car. I was struck by the splendor of the mill as it was lit warmly by the sun in such a cold surrounding.

The mill looked good this morning. The news is official now, it's all over the radio: We have entered spring!

Shot made in front of my door of the Gereformeerde church and the greyhound mill. It was sunny weather today and it feels like spring is coming soon.

Another shot of the Greyhound Mill just besides my house, I keep enjoying the view everytime I walk by. It has been build on the remains on one of the former defence tower of Woerden.

It are grey, dark, cold and rainy days over here, never the less a great shot of the windmill.

From an other Angle

A very ‘Dutchy’ picture today, the Greyhound mill from an other angle. It is most of the time a picture of the same mill on my blog. Woerden has one mill and I live right besides it. I think it is a magnificent one. It is build on a hill and on Saturday it is 'working'. They still do grind cereal there, so if you like you can go up to buy an ounce of flower.... I don't think it tastes different.

I have read ones that the ancient Egyptians used to have very bad tooth. This because when grinding cereal, they added sand. That simplified the grinding process..

Smoking Room

This house has a bay window, nothing special, but I noticed that you can't reach it from the inside of the house, you can only enter it from the outside (you can just see this in the picture). Taking a better look, the owners use it as a smoking room....

Whitish Mill

We have snow and freezing weather like the rest of the Northern world; the mill with a thin white layer.

I passed by the mill last evening, the sky was very dark, contrasting the lit mill.

The Greyhound Mill 1755

The Greyhound Mill from 1755 dominates together with the church towers the skyline of Woerden. The Greyhound is the successor of a mill which stood on the same spot which was first mentioned in 1550. There used to be a second mill in Woerden but this one has been demolished in 1707. I live 1 min walking from the mill. In older days the miller and his familiy lived in the lower part of the mill.

A Dutch expression related to mills is: 'He must have had a blow of the mill wing', meaning he has lost his mind or has become crazy. A blow of a mill wing can't be a good thing...
