Tulips at the market

I have been to the market this morning. One stand, I realized is probably very Dutch. A stand only selling tulips bulbs. Selections of dark purple and pink tulip bulbs. Red and yellow, different shapes and sizes. I don't know what it is with tulips. It's one of the national symbols as a flower they are nothing special, still I like them. From time to time I buy a bunch.

Hoekse Waard

A very Dutchy site, I had to take an alternative route to my work this morning because of a serious jam on the highway I usually take. I saw this windmill and thought, 'that's a nice post for Daily'.

Alternative refrigerator

I don't eat meat or milk products, so I discovered that you actually don't need a refrigerator. I don't drink soda's either so I have lived for years without one.
But sometimes a refrigerator comes in handy. When you throw a party for example. But with a little bit creativity: I cool my drinks in the bathtub... :)

View from the water

During a party at a friend we made a small boat trip on the canal of Woerden. I saw the town from a different angle.. This is a shot of the Castle and Catholic Church.

What is the question?

Almost walked allover it, somebody drew this question mark on the beach. What would have been the question? Where am I in the point of my life, where am I going, what will I do? What is the right way to go.
It is my interpretation of the question mark on the beach, but it are indeed the questions I am struggling with..

Name plate of ministers

This is a tradition in Protestant churches the name list of preachers/ ministers starting from the year of reformation. This date depends when the reformation took place. In Vianen they are not sure, but it happened somewhere at the end of the 1500's.

I always feel a link with history when you see these name plates

Interior

Inside the church, a service had just finished and some people are still enjoying the coffee. It is a tipical Dutch Reformed church interior; white and empty with some bible texts on the walls.

Grote Kerk Vianen

This is a shot of the magnificent old church of Vianen, a town not so far away. It is a huge 'temple'. It started of in 1327 as a little chapel dedicated to 'Our dear lady of Ascension'. In 1540, then extended to a 'hall' church, it was destroyed by a fire. The next build church is the building you see in the picture. No mayor constructions took place since that time. But a big change happened on 25 September of 1566 when the images and statues were removed during the Reformation. It has remained a Protestant church ever since and till today an active community.

I will post the coming days some shots I made during a visit.

Sinister

An odd sight: a run down church, broken cars, and a run down houses around the church. I sneaked insight the building to have a look. It seemed as if everybody just left. It appeared to have been some kind of hospital for mentally ill. The atmosphere was so sinister that I didn't stayed long though. I don't want to know what happened there...
